Fourbridge Solutions

FourBridge Solutions’ mission is to prolong the usefulness of critical infrastructure. In this era of overburdened budgets, the maintenance of infrastructure is often overlooked. Asset structures, when properly coated and maintained, will last to and in many cases, exceed the expected design life.

Every part of infrastructure is susceptible to the damaging effects of corrosion. Our Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) certified inspectors follow accepted inspection standards and procedures, utilizing the latest technologies, to maintain conformance with infrastructure design.

As part of the inspection, a comprehensive project report is prepared that details inspection results, with an objective evaluation, and follow-on recommendations.

FourBridge Solutions utilizes the latest underwater ROV and aerial drone technologies to assist our inspectors in evaluating the condition of infrastructure.

Fourbridge scientific methods show the condition of protective coatings better than the human eye can see. The resultant analysis identifies areas of potential coating failure.

Responsibility for service reliability and asset longevity may fall outside of a municipality’s staff expertise. Along with infrastructure inspections and evaluations, Fourbridge Solutions offers complete infrastructure management programs.

Fourbridge Solutions coordinates our services with several municipal engineering firms. We combine our expertise with those engineering professionals to ensure the best methodologies for meeting infrastructure protection objectives.

  • What causes metal to corrode?

Corrosion is an electro-chemical process that occurs when the following parts of a corrosion cell are present. All four parts of the corrosion cell must be present for corrosion to occur.

    • Anode  - Negatively charged areas of the metal
    • Cathode  - Positively charged areas of the metal
    • Electrolyte  - Conductive path across dissimilar metals
    • Return Pathway  - Conductive Substrate completing the circuit.

Removing any one of the above will stop the process.

  • What can be done to prevent corrosion?

Development of corrosion can be easily prevented by depriving the corrosion cell of the electrolyte (moisture). This is accomplished by making sure the coating systems are properly applied and keeping the coating system in good condition. Proper coating application and maintenance prevents moisture from getting to the metal substrate and completing the corrosion cell.

  • Once my infrastructure is repainted, what is the best way to keep it maintained?

The best way to maintain all types of painted infrastructure is to have regular inspections of the coating system performed by a certified inspector. The inspector can identify problem areas before they cause major damage to the coating system or the substrate. Small areas of corrosion can be repaired cost effectively and can extend the life of the coating system and the infrastructure.

  • What financing options are available to fund my infrastructure paint/restoration projects?

Re-painting projects are expensive. One option to pay for an infrastructure project is to obtain a loan from a lending institution or a state regulatory agency. Another is to enter into a coating maintenance program with a qualified company. This program spreads the cost of the initial project, maintenance inspections, and coating maintenance over the life of the contract into an annual lump sum that can be over the life of the contract into an annual lump sum.
